Senior Mixed Provincial Honour Choir

Senior 1 & Senior 4

Rob Monson currently teaches instrumental and choral music at Glenlawn Collegiate. He has sung with the U of M Singers, the Winnipeg Singers and the a cappella vocal jazz group Jazzmyn. For the past ten years he has been the choir director at Epiphany Lutheran Church. As a tuba player, Rob has performed with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg Wind Ensemble and the Winnipeg Brass Quintet.

 

 

 

CatherineRobbinsCatherine Robbins

Women's Provincial Honour Choir

Senior 1 and 2 girls

Catherine Robbins is in demand as a clinician, guest conductor and adjudicator at workshops and festivals throughout western Canada. Catherine was the director of the youth choir program for the past seven years at the Division of Preparatory Studies at the U. of M. Faculty of Music and maintains a private voice studio through the Preparatory Division. She teaches the music education course Vocal Techniques for music education students at the Faculty of Music and has taught at all levels of the public school system. In addition to voice and choral, she has taught musical theatre and is the director of the Summer Musical Theatre program that runs in July. Catherine is currently living in Toronto and is pursuing a Masters of Music in Music Education.

 

 

LianeOuimetLiane Ouimet

Junior Mixed Provincial Honour Choir

Grades 6 to 8

Liane Ouimet is currently teaching music and French at Ness Middle School in Winnipeg. She has conducted many school ensembles ranging from high school to elementary. She has also worked as a clinician and adjudicator for many choral associations in Manitoba. Although Liane's vocal training is primarily classical, she was bit by the jazz bug in university and has been singing it ever since! She is currently a member of the professional vocal jazz ensemble Apogee.

 

 

 

DorothyDyckDorothy Dyck

Vocal Jazz Provincial Honour Choir

Dorothy Dyck loves jazz! She teaches it, performs it , and listens to it... lots. Dorothy received her music training partially at the U of M, but mainly in front of a CD player and microphone. She teaches vocal jazz and choir at Maples Collegiate. Her jazz ensemble Maple Sugar has been showcased at the Brandon Jazz Festival and the Rocky Mountain Festival in Banff. Dorothy has served as a clinician at Jazz ChoralFest on three occasions, adjudicated last year's Central Manitoba vocal jazz workshop, and has directed both the Westman and Eastman Youth Choirs in recent years. Dorothy sings with VoiceOver, a 5 person a cappella vocal band, gigs in and around Winnipeg, and is excited to be snappin' on 2 and 4 with PHC this year.

 

 

 

DerekMorphyDerek Morphy

Adult Choir

Born in England, educated in Wales, Derek Morphy sang as a Choral Scholar in the chapel at St. John's College, Cambridge, and has sung in a number of chamber choirs in England and Canada. He is presently a member of the Winnipeg Singers.

Since arriving in Canada in 1967, Derek has sung the bass solos in many oratorios, and most recently sang the role of Sarastro in performances of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

Derek Morphy retired in 2000 from a 37 year career, teaching Choral Music and History. His Neelin High School Chamber Ensemble in Brandon won the George S. Mathieson National Choral Trophy in both 1982 and 1983, and his Kelvin High School chamber choir was twice awarded the Lieutenant Governor's Trophy for the most outstanding performance in the Winnipeg Music Festival. He has conducted the Manitoba Youth Choir (1991), and all four regional Youth Choirs. He presently conducts the chamber choir, Renaissance Voices, and the Trinty United Church Choir.

He is presently the Manitoba representative on the Board of the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors and was a long time Board member of the Manitoba Choral Association. He has served as an adjudicator at many festivals, both in Manitoba and elsewhere in Canada.
